Who hasn’t been hurt by the actions or words of another?
Perhaps a friend or family member said something mean growing up, maybe your partner maybe had an affair, or maybe you had a traumatic experience such as being physically or emotionally abused.
These scenarios can all cause wounds that can leave painful lasting feelings of anger and bitterness.
When someone hurts you, it’s natural for someone to hold on to anger, resentment, and thoughts of revenge. It’s also normal for someone to turn over a new leaf by embracing forgiveness and moving forward.
As much as this sounds wild, if you don’t practice forgiveness, you might be the one who suffers the most. Embracing forgiveness enables you to also embrace peace, hope, and joy in your life.
So what is ‘forgiveness’?
Forgiveness can be interpreted differently by different people but the main thing about is that it involves a decision to let go of resentment or any thoughts of revenge. And NO, forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting or excusing the harm done to you. It just simply means that you are freeing yourself from the control of the person who harmed you. Forgiveness provides you with a kind of peace that helps you go on with your life.
What are the benefits of forgiving someone?
- Healthier relationships
- Improved mental health
- Less anxiety, stress, and hostility
- Improved self-esteem
- Lower blood pressure
- Fewer symptoms of depression
What are the effects of holding a grudge?
If you are unforgiving:
- You may bring that anger and bitterness into your relationships.
- The anger may consume your mind so much that you can’t enjoy being present.
- You may become depressed or anxious.
- You may feel that your life lacks meaning or purpose.
- You may lose valuable and enriching connectedness with others.
How do I reach a state of forgiveness?
Forgiveness is a commitment to a personalized process of change. To move from suffering to forgiveness, you might:
- Realise the power of forgiveness and how it can improve your life.
- Need to consider joining a support group to help you get through it.
- Need to see a therapist so that you can talk through your it.
- Acknowledge your pain and hurt and how it affects your behaviour and figure out a way to release the pain.
- Identify what needs healing and who needs to be forgiven.
- Move away from your role as a victim but rather release the power and control the person who hurt you has over you.
- Choose to forgive the person.

Interesting newsletter…
I can relate all to well with this article in relation to forgiveness as in my current relationship, I have been living with my partner for 6 years with my parents not liking her. It’s only now they’ve come around realised my happiness by approving and wanting our forgiveness. I did and not for them but for my peace of mind.
Power of forgiveness is also setting your self free
i forgive my self and am moving forward…#manbox
We as men need to learn to talk about things. We keep things bottled up inside and then, like, a can of soda that was shaken, when we do open up we explode…
While the above article is great, let me tell my story…my father died in 2019 and I still could not forgive him for what he did as he burnt and his ashes were scattered to the winds… He was in our lives but only as a spectator and when I got older he tried to assert dominance in the family, which I objected to – I was 16 at the time. Our damaged relationship, was now severed completely and I would never ackowledge his presence or position in the family as the head. HE never raised me , my mother did, he never nurtured me , my mother did. He was NEVER a role model other than what not to do in life. I am turning 48 and I still havent forgiven him for the hurt he caused my mother, my siblings and me… I have learned that I do not need to forgive him as he was who he was but I have lived each day of my life doing exactly what he did not do for me…
I do however think that with support one can accomplish great feats and out there may be others who have experienced what I feel but I am yet to meet them. Guys learn to speak how you feel about things and you can accomplish anything…
Lovely article. Well with me, I am one to forgive freely, but I have to put you in your place first, so that you will not make my head a play ground!
I must identify what needs healing…Interesting article …
Forgiving can seem or portrayed as defeat but that’s untrue. I have grown to know that “to forgive” doesn’t only come from what has been done to you, but also what you have done to others . If you want peaceful thoughts just take that leap and forgive.
Thank you @#manbox

Hurt both emotionally and physically but if I refuse to let go of those painful memories then I won’t move on which means I did not forgive the abuser and that will lead to anger. Forgive and move on but I can’t pinpoint on forgetting because no one will ever forget the experience you once had
