Give Luvo Manyonga a Manbox!

The long jump Olympic silver medallist Luvo Manyonga won a first prize ($50 000) at the Diamond League finals in Zurich. It wasn’t a walk in the park as Luvo competed with a fellow South African, long jumper Rushwahl Samaai.

Luvo had to battle with drugs and peer pressure to put himself back on top of his game. That fighting spirit is evident as he claimed the first prize after Rushwahl gave his best score of 8.30 mites. Manyonga led for much of the long jump event, taking the lead with his first leap of 8.32 metres. With two rounds remaining, Samaai lept into the lead by matching Manyonga’s best effort.

Manyonga landed an 8.36 metre jump with his last attempt of the evening to snatch victory. Another victor for South Africa, Caster Semenya won the 800m race consecutively for the third time.
