Brené Brown or Trevor Noah? This is a weird comparison. But if you’re a fan of Brené Brown or Trevor Noah perhaps you’ll agree (also allowed to disagree) with me.
Both household names with successful careers in seemingly totally different careers. However, if you look closer there are similarities in their material and the intention behind it.
Brené Brown is not a comedian (professor, lecturer, author, and podcast host) but she has an incredible sense of humor and Trevor Noah (comedian, TV host, actor, and author) isn’t a researcher but his ‘world experience’ makes him credible educator.
Before you dismiss this crazy comparison, watch Trevor Noah’s Son of Patricia comedy special on Netflix, and
Brené Brown’s The Call To Courage on Netflix:
We have come up with 5 of Brené Brown and Trevor Noah’s similarities below. Do you agree or disagree with us?
Both stumbled by chance into their careers
Trevor Noah revealed that his incredible international career is largely thanks to a couple of drunk friends. If our beloved comedian didn’t go out that night, he’d probably be a salesman in an insurance company. Apparently, Trevor’s drunk friend and cousin were heckling a comedian. When the comedian challenged them to come on stage, they sent Trevor (who was totally sober) up instead. That’s how Trevor successful career as a comedian began
On the other hand, Brené Brown was invited to the Huston TEDx and she thought the talk would be seen by 500 people. That thought made her try being vulnerable with the audience, to try “something different”. Little did she know the talk will be amongst one of the most-watched with over 8 million views on YouTube
New York Time Best Seller
In 2016, Trevor released his first book Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood, which was an instant New York Times bestseller. Additionally, his performance on the Born a Crime audiobook was Audible’s highest-rated audiobook of 2016 and has remained one of the top-selling titles on Audible since its release.
Brené Brown is the author of five #1 New York Times bestsellers, namely The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly, and Dare to Lead.
Brené Brown is a great storyteller and uses her personal experience to support her research. Somehow this approach makes her audience feel more connected to her. Through her talks
the audience gets to understand Brene’s family dynamics.
Trevor is one of the most private celebrities, but he reveals his personal life through his comedy. If the audience knew that some of his stories are true (like his mom shooting incident) perhaps the LOLs would be less. However, that’s the genius of stand-up comedy.
It’s all about the feel-good
After watching Trevor Noah and Brené Brown you can’t help but feel good. Both their stage presence is warm – you get to laugh, shed a tear, and cringe a little. As much as they are tackling serious topics, the hilarious punchlines are timely delivered.
Trevor Noah is so informative and points out humor in places you’d not normally find. On the other hand, Brené Brown is supposed to show us graphs of her research, instead, she delivers that information in an easy-to-digest manner.
Brené Brown is hosting two podcasts, namely “Unlocking Us with Brené Brown” and “Dare to Lead with Brené Brown”. Trevor Noah is also hosting two podcasts, namely “The Trevor Noah Podcast” and “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah: Ears Edition.”
Both Trevor and Brené are in the center of important conversations that are shaping the world that we live in today.
