Andile Ndunge is a 24 year old freelance fashion model. He has collaborated with different local brands such as Vertigo, HolmesBrothers, Afro’s Chicken, Kauai and The Space just to mention a few. Andile is on a journey to build his brand across the African continent.
How do you introduce myself?
I’m Andile Ndunge. Hopefully style is somehow hinting who I am.
What inspired you to become a model?
If you told me as a kid that I’d later become a fashion model – I’d have probably called you insane. I was a super shy sketch artist as kid. When I started expressing myself through ‘clothes” everybody started calling me a model. When a calling is that obviously who am I not to accept it?
What makes you stand out from the rest?
I’m obsessed with the ‘vintage’ look. My style is basically saying “I wasn’t around then but I’m curious to know more”. Not everybody can pull a vintage look- the secret is understanding that era before you rock it.
Describe your fashion style?
I would describe my style as vintage with a bit of street style if that makes any sense. I’m inspired by Sophiatown vibes. The whole 80s and 90s era.
What message are you attempting to convey through clothes?
At an early age I had to play a father figure to my siblings. Rocking vintage clothes feels like I’m dressed up for the important character of a “dad”. That’s how it all begin. I wanted to look the part and be regarded as a head of the house. Perhaps you can call it swag with purpose.
What wakes you up every morning besides your alarm?
It’s the positive outlook on life. I lost my parents at an early age so my hustle game is always on alert mode. Life is super short – I would not spend under the blankets even if that was a choice.
What’s your wining formula?
I’m constantly networking – that skill will never be out of fashion. We live in interesting times so I take full advantage of social media to build solid relationships.
What is next for you?
I would like to be featured on international publications. Currently I’m building my brand and learning a great deal from the process. I believe I’m “onto something” hence I’m not losing patience when my work isn’t getting enough recognition.
What is your routine to stay looking fresh?
I consume a lot of H2O and pay attention to what I eat.
What is your number ONE grooming product?
Having an afro is a full time job so I always have a comb. As crazy as it sounds, I’d rather lose my iPhone than my comb.
Is there such thing as a perfect guy?
Not really, but there is a perfect outfit for every occasion
If we had to put you in BOX – what would you remain as besides a fashion model?
I would remain a storyteller. Through our personal stories, we have power to heal and connect to each other.
Grand, grand what do you think is Manbox?
It’s a venture that focuses on grooming content and products for men.
