Christopher Shezi is a  photographer and content-creator based in Johannesburg and operating under the handle Chrisseptember. Chris is passionate about all things menswear, lifestyle, and grooming. He completed his first qualification in Business an began working towards his LLB Degree, while still passionately perusing his love for lifestyle and fashion blogging. Completely shaking the boat, this year relocating to Johannesburg to accept a position as Business Applications Coordinator for Varsity College National.

How do you introduce yourself?

I’m Jess Christopher Kyle: my mom gave me all these names as if she knew I’ll be her only child. I wish needed no introduction but I introduce myself as Chris.

What inspired you to become a photographer?

In Varsity I picked up my first DLSR camera and started taking pictures. However my story doesn’t really begin there. I have always had an affinity for photography – I bet I got it from my mom. As a teenager she would help me develop pictures from a film in a dark room, just like in the movies. Growing up I as always surrounded by vintage cameras.

Why are interested in grooming ad lifestyle content?

Firstly, I think men don’t pay enough attention to grooming or skincare. It is a common misconception that good grooming habits is only for the metrosexual man or those interested in self-preservation. I am in this grooming space to educate those who would like to improve their grooming routine or even start a grooming routine. Taking care of yourself translated to a better man, and better men do better to others.

What wakes up every morning besides your alarm?

Haha, the fact that I have a day job I must get to every morning. As much as I am passionate about photography and content creation, I am a Business Applications Coordinator for The IIE’s Varsity College by day, and avid photographer and content creator by night. Apart from that, what wakes me up every morning are the possibilities that each new day brings, the opportunity to meet, connect and work with different people. Today for example I get to write this article for Manbox!

What’s your winning formula?

My winning formula. Be kind to people, be respectful, be helpful, let you word be you word and for Pete sake be on time.

What’s next for you?

Next for me, is to take over the world. I’d like to explore and conquer SA first then the whole continent. I also want to help build my community – charity begins at home after all.

What’s your routine to stay looking fresh?

What we often forget, is to start from the inside out. Put good things into your body and that’s half the work done. Stay hydrated you skin will thank you for that and don’t skimp on good grooming product. Good skincare is essential, my combo consists of a good cleanser, toner, moisturizer and sunblock and if you lucky enough to have a strong beard game, keep is manicured, conditioned and oiled.

What’s your number ONE grooming product?

Can I say cologne? Cologne is your secret weapon that no one will ever see but will kill the competition. Smelling good is a signature that accompanies every good look, the finishing touch if you will.

Is there such thing as a perfect guy?

I don’t think there is such a thing as a perfect guy, but why not strive for perfection always. I believe there is always room for improvement, it’s a constant effort to maintain the mark a great man. It’s the parts of us that aren’t perfect that makes us interesting anyways. As guys we need to embrace those imperfections and own them, okay me stop now before this become a monologue, aha!

If we had to put you in BOX – what would you remain as besides a photographer?

 Hopefully be a man of integrity, a good son, a great brother, and a loving partner. My skills and talents have always been secondary to me, what I find is most important is the person behind it all. Good guys actually finish first.
