Don Dinnematin is an award-winning blogger, husband and father. The Don Father (Don’s blog) was launched in 2015 and is proving to be one Mzansi’s most powerful and influential parenting blogs. The blog is aimed at inspiring and motivating dads, new dads and parents as a whole.

How do you introduce yourself?

My name is Don. I’m a Husband & Father to the most amazing little family. My day job lies in Marketing for an Australian Tech company, and after hours I dive into all things blogging over at www.thedonfather.co.za

 

What do you think makes you a “better man”?

My family! Having children has taught me to have more patience. I listen more. I play more. I love with all I have and I think this is what makes me a better man!

Tell us more about your blog? 

I had always wanted to write, but my thoughts were always clouded when it came to deciding what to write about. I became a father in December 2015, and in January 2016 The Don Father was born. I had found my inspiration, and the rest they say, is history.

I write from experiences and how I see my role as a father. I also like to write about what I think other dads want to hear/read. So much is aimed at moms, and there is so much information out there for moms. I felt a platform for dads was missing. Some of my content is humorous, and some is serious. A good balance is essential.

What’s your winning formula? 

To be there. To be present. And to encourage other Dads the same.  Dads, you are hugely influential in the eyes of your children. Don’t be content with the fact that you’re simply a dad. Instead, challenge yourself to become a dad who is a force in the lives of your wife and children. You might think that you have a complete lack of influence in your personal or professional life, but the day you become a father, all of that changes. As far as they are concerned, you are the most influential man in the world. Your role as a father has a huge impact on their entire life. They look up to you and want to make you proud. Make them proud by being 100% present.

I have big dreams and aspirations. God is in control and it all happens in his time, so let’s see

What inspires you to chase your dreams?

Having children is, in itself, a life changing experience. You change as a person for the better. You become more loving, more patient and more in touch with your inner feelings. The bedtime stories, the morning kisses, the influence I get to have on my daughter and the example I want to set, all make me excited to get up in the morning, chase my dreams and explore a new day.

What’s your grooming routine? 

I have hair and beard appointments every second week with my barber. A good face cleanser and moisturizer are essential. I cleanse twice daily. Exfoliate twice weekly. Moisturize twice daily and I have a good beard trimmer for touch-ups.
