The Deadliest Situation Known To Man – And How To Get Out Of It

Welcome to Day-5 of Lockdown, brother!

It’s time for our next instalment of ‘How to Thrive in a 21-Day Lockdown, and Emerge a Better Man’,

You’re about to learn how to fight your way out of the deadliest situation known to mankind – even more dangerous than swimming naked in freezing water with Great White sharks, or being soaked in marinade and dangled over a Tiger’s cage…

…and it’s a situation that you face every day:  NEGATIVE THOUGHTS!

Negative thoughts are our most dangerous enemy.

Negative thoughts suck our energy, dampen out enthusiasm and derail our motivation.

But it’s much worse than that!

Not only do negative thoughts affect our performance, but they also give our bodies a serious beat-down, and can cause all kinds of physical problems, like headaches, chest pain,

Fatigue; upset stomach, sleep problems, anxiety and even depression.

So to help you stay fighting fit and on the front foot during ‘The Big 2020 Lockdown’, here are THREE WAYS to pump up your positivity and heighten your happiness:

#1 Quench the Quagmire with Questions

(FYI a quagmire is a bad situation … in our commitment helping your emerge a better man, we decided to throw in a big word today … we encourage you to try it out with your friends and family.  Let us know how that goes).

When you’re swimming in negativity – you know, like when you’re going bonkers because you feel like a prisoner in your own home and stuff – take a moment to find what’s good.

Asking yourself some ‘thinking questions’ is a really helpful way of doing that!

Here are some suggestions:

What is one really great thing about this situation?

If I was paid R1,000,000 to find a solution to this problem, what would I do?

How would [insert name of successful person you admire] handle this situation?

Questions like these will derail the negative thoughts, and get your brain hunting for answers … it’s an answer-hunting machine, it just can’t help itself.

#2 Capture and Catapult the Crazies

This is possibly the simplest (and most effective) way to “catch and kill” those rogue forces that are attacking the sacred temple of your mind:

Write the negative thoughts down on a piece of paper, then scrunch it into a ball, and throw it away.

[Bonus points for actually having a paper recycling bin!]

According to a 2012 Ohio State University study, people who wrote down negative things about their bodies and then threw them away had a more positive self-image a few minutes later, compared to those who kept the papers with them.

#3 Kill the Chaos with Kindness

When you get stuck in negative thoughts or victim thinking, a simple way to get out of your own head – and escape the whirlpool that threatens to suck your party boat down to the cold depths of despair – is to focus on adding positivity to someone else’s life…

Offer a stranger sincere compliment, or a kind and encouraging word.

(There are about 200 million people on social media who could probably do with some kind words of encouragement, right now)

Keep in mind, that learning to be positive is a lot like learning to walk.

There a 99% chance that you’re going to fall down – a lot!

The secret to being positive is actually the same secret to walking … you just keep putting one foot in front of the other, day by day, until one day you might even find yourself merrily swimming (naked in cold water) with hungry sharks, and lots to smile about…

…but you’ll have to wait until ‘The Big 2020 Lockdown’ is over, before give that a try.

Okay guys, that’s it for today’s instalment of ‘How to Thrive in a 21-Day Lockdown, and Emerge a Better Man’.
