Ageing on the sports field.

We all have to go through this dilemma at some stage. That day when you realise that your sport heroes are younger than you are. It’s not like we feel older or act older. It’s just that we look older. Being sportsmen by nature, we are naturally competitive. Luckily there are tricks that we can do to keep ourselves looking as young as we feel. 

Beware the sun: It dries out the skin. Damaging the keratin filaments, which due to losing elasticity causes wrinkles. So whenever you stand on the first tee, ready for the battle ahead, put on a sunscreen. Preferably SPF 30+. This is Africa, gents.

Hydration station: Even if you are playing a friendly game of beach soccer, you will get dehydrated. Drink plenty of water, this keeps the body hydrated and helps us maintain a good balance of water and electrolytes in the blood. Balance is key to a healthy lifestyle, which unlocks a healthy body. Your face will thank you for it.

Anti-aging is not for girls: Don’t shy away from anti-ageing grooming products. It’s not a disgrace to age, it’s inevitable. Use a multi-purpose lotion, focus on the area around your eyes. So the earlier you start the longer your outer shell will reflect your young spirit. Plus Beck’s most probably has a whole cupboard of the stuff, so shouldn’t you?

It’s only a game: Stress is the real bad guy. That missed putt on the 17^th or the double fault in the final set, is really not the end of the world. Don’t let that put a frown on your face, unless if you like having the Grand Canyon on your forehead. So relax, inhale slowly, smile and take it like a man.

We all enjoy playing sports, but let’s not play around with our features. You’ll get another chance to beat you mates in a game of touch rugby, but you’re not getting another face.
