Sibusiso Ngwenya (27), owner of the sock brand, Skinny Sbu Socks couldn’t hide his anger in his SABC news show. Social media is going crazy after Sbu rejected an advice from Thulani Thabethe from 2Larnie Solutions and demanded R5 million investment.
Skinny Sbu Socks, a business Ngwenya started about 5 years ago and is now available in 20 Markham stores nationwide. The 27 year old entrepreneur is “gatvol” as he has experienced all sorts of down falls in his journey – at age 23 Sbu had a 800k debt.
Is Skiny Sbu a special case or does he represent all thousands of entrepreneurs in the country that are struggling to get funding? Funding is major issue in the SME space. Like Sbu said in the interview, socks aren’t really a need and he has to force his way in to the market. Ngwenya wants to build his brand to be in the same calibre as Tom Ford or Tommy Hilfiger but the odds aren’t in his favour.
Manbox is in a mission to build better men. A kind of dude that is chasing his dreams and yet makes time to make sure he smells and looks good. Sbu has put his skin in the game and is demanding to see the fruit of his hard labour. Manbox would like to send him Floyd Labtie’s Choice, R5 million isn’t what is takes to make you stand out from the rest.
