Is The #MenAreTrash Hashtag About Men?

Is the “men are trash” hashtag about men? The internet streets argue that it’s about women experience at the hands of men. It’s poking at the privileges men have, such as going to the ‘post office’ without the fear of being murdered or riding Uber at night without being worried about being raped. It’s a woman’s reality and lived experience, not man’s.

Men, out “trashy actions” are hurting women and holding them hostage. I know one or two guys who are reading the article and saying “but I’m a good guy and I’d never lay a hand on a woman”. That’s great bro! But is ENOUGH? Your silence is another way of saying “it’s none of my business”.

The #MenAreTrash hashtag is about raising awareness. Some men feel attacked because this ‘trashy’ behaviour has happened far too long under their leadership and they turned a blind eye. I suppose all #MenAreTrash until all women feel safe to walk in the streets.
