Matwetwe A Box Office Hit

In Just 8 days Matwetwe, a newly released South African movie grossed R2 million at the box office. Matwetwe tells the story of two best friends who have just finished matric and have an unforgettable New Year’s Eve in Atteridgeville. Their adventures include: scoring a huge deal, dodging a kingpin gangster and winning over a girl.

This shows that South Africa audience has a huge appetite for local authentic content. Perhaps we still have a long way to go – as cinemas aren’t available in some rural areas.
