In light of Father’s day on Sunday the 19th of June we have decided to dedicate this article to something that is very vital in being a father, the testis – also called testicles.
The testis is responsible for the production and protection of sperm. They’re contained in a sack of skin called the scrotum. The scrotum hangs outside the body in the front of the pelvic region near the upper thighs.
The testis is vital for producing testosterone and other male hormones. This hormone is responsible for sex drive, fertility, and the development of muscle and bone mass.
Many men like you may have many questions such as how to keep the testis healthy and strong. Here are some simple yet effective ways to improve testicle health that will help you get started.
Conduct a monthly testicular self-exam
Roll each testicle around in your scrotum using your fingers. Check for lumps and swollen or tender areas.
Please bathe Daily
Daily, you should take a shower or bath so that you can keep your genital area clean as this reduces the risk of infections and other irritations. Ensure that your penis and the scrotal area is dry after bathing as the moisture can quickly become a catalyst for bacteria forming in the scrotum area.
Wear loose & comfortable clothing
Pants that are too tight are a no-no! Underwear that is too tight is also not good. Always make sure that your scrotum is hanging naturally from your body.
Wear protection when you have sex
Wear a condom when doing any kind of sexual activity involving your penis. This will also help you to prevent any kinds of sexually transmitted diseases that will affect your scrotum and testicles.
Ejaculate regularly to prevent testicular injuries
Regular ejaculation improves sperm quality, which can prevent damage to sperm DNA. Experts believe the longer the exposure to sperm in the testis is, the higher the risk of sperm damage due to oxidative stress. Studies have also shown that men who ejaculate more than 21 times a month had a 30% lower risk of prostate cancer so don’t give into myths surrounding sperm retention making you stronger and masturbating regularly making you weaker.
Don’t ignore worrisome symptoms
If you notice any lumps, bumps, or pain in your scrotum or testicles please see a doctor to provide you with some medical advice.
Eat a healthy diet
Yes, what you eat does impact your testicular health. You should aim to consume a diet that’s rich in vegetables and fruits, which contain beneficial antioxidants. Include whole grains and lean meats. Avoid items that are processed or are high in saturated fat or sugar.
Eat more foods like:
Avocados
- Avocados are loaded with Zinc and Vitamin E which are beneficial for your fertility and sex drive. Zinc also improves testosterone levels and Vitamin E boosts sperm quality.
Carrots
- Carrots can improve your sperm count and boost male fertility.
Tomatoes
- Has properties that may prevent prostate cancer and improve sperm count and its quality and movement by 40%.
Dark Chocolate
- Dark chocolate has the ability to protect sperm from oxidative stress. It also boosts nitric oxide production which can improve your erections.
Spinach
- Spinach is rich in folate, which is a nutrient that boosts your blood flow. Folate is essential in sexual health and its deficiency is associated with erectile dysfunction. So eat your greens gents!
