Bro, it’s Day-10 – and the second ‘feed your soul Sunday’- of lockdown.
In today’s installment of ‘How to Thrive in a 21-Day Lockdown, and Emerge and Better Man’, we’re offering up some music for your soul. Because Sunday is the seventh day of the week, the Manbox crew has chosen seven songs to feed and uplift your soul.
So what makes for a great uplifting, soul-nourishing track?
For some it is the music and the melody – those feel-good vibes that seem to bathe your soul in liquid gold … or beer … or chocolate … whatever you thing is.
For others it is the lyrics – words of inspiration and empowerment … like a powerful sermon or a rousing speech, bound together with a beat and some bass.
Dudes! There are literally thousands of awesome and uplifting songs that would have … could have … should have been on this list…
So consider this your Soul Sunday Starter Kit, and feel free to build on this with your own ‘righteous records’.
Here’s our list of seven, with the Manbox choice of ‘super soul-satisfying sentence’ for each one.
#1 Shackles (Praise You) – Mary Mary
“Cause you see I have been down for so long
Feel like the hope is gone
But as I lift my hands, I understand
That I should praise you through my circumstance”
#2 Peace Train – Cat Stevens
“Now I’ve been smiling lately,
Thinkin’ about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
Something good has begun”
#3 Way Maker – Paul McClure
“I’ve got joy unspeakable as I walk through the valley, no matter what comes my way”
[This epic line of affirmation (around the 12 minute mark) is not in other versions of the song.]
#4 Beautiful day- U2 (Lyrics on screen)
“What you don’t have you don’t need it now
What you don’t know you can feel it somehow
What you don’t have you don’t need it now
Don’t need it now”
#5 Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) – Hillsong UNITED
“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger”
#6 Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Can’t T Hold Us Feet. Ray Dalton
“I feel glorious, glorious
Got a chance to start again
I was born for this, born for this
It’s who I am, how could I forget?”
#7 Do It Again – Elevation Worship (Do It Again)
“Your promise still stands
Great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness
I’m still in Your hands
This is my confidence, You never failed me yet”
That’s it, Manbox tribe! That’s our satisfy-your-soul-on-Sunday selection.
We hope it revives and refreshed your soul, and helps you to emerge on the other side of lockdown as a better man.
Did we perhaps leave out a tune that should have been on the list?? Let us know in the comments.
In tomorrow’s instalment of ‘How to Thrive in a 21-Day Lockdown, and Emerge and Better Man’, we’re talking creative expression.
