How To Change Bad Habits

Bad habits prevent you from achieving your goals. It doesn’t have to be hectic as being addicted to drugs. The battle could be fear or negative thoughts that are holding you back. Perhaps the constant need for approval. That can be a huge delay in your progress. Almost all of us have bad habits — some less sabotaging than the other.

The story in your head

What story are you telling yourself about yourself? The mind is like a garden, it needs proper care to produce positive results. It begins with guilt and unfair comparison to others. How you behave and tackle life, in general, reflects “the story in your head”. If you intend to lose weight and eat healthily but you always hang at the “shisanyama” — nothing will ever change.

The difference is…

Most people would be like “I’m functioning well” meaning they’ve accepted their bad habits as who they are. Of course, you could go from point A to point B with no harm. However, you might remain in the same position forever. The question is, are you going to ditch your bad habits and strive to be your better self?

No big deal?

Bad habits can jeopardise your health — both mentally and physically. And they waste your time and energy. It’s almost impossible to eliminate a bad habit than to replace it. For example, instead of watching too much television you can listen to podcasts or read a book. That will improve your skills and empower you with knowledge. It’s easy to always cook an excuse for an old bad habit. Stop defending your bad habit!

In 2020, are you going to succumb to your bad habits?
