Rafiki is an important character on The Lion King movie. In fact, Simba wouldn’t “remember” who he really is or was if it wasn’t for Rafiki. Sadly the original actor, Robert Guillaume, who played the voice of wise ‘Rakiki’ died in 2017. Robert is replaced by none other than the “king of theatre” John Kani – who brings South African flavour in the character and speaks in IsiXhosa to make the role authentic.
John Kani isn’t a stranger in Hollywood productions as he recently played a role as the king in “Black Panther”. Kani also has a fantastic voice that makes you want to pay more attention even if you don’t understand his language. The plus was the collaboration of the song .”Circle of Life” between our talented composer Lebo M and Beyonce.
