Beat burnout in 2023
Happy New Year men!
This time of year is always the busiest and craziest time of the year despite it being holiday season. And some of us are lucky enough to take some time off and reset while others work throughout the holiday season.
For the latter we understand that work can suck sometimes especially when you are completely exhausted and haven’t had a moment break. Often this total work suckiness can trigger chronic exhaustion, cynicism, and inefficiency which in medical terms is defined as a condition called “burnout.”
So, with it being the new year and in order for us to be as proactive as possible when setting New Year’s resolutions for ourselves particularly with work we thought it be helpful that we can identify symptoms of burnout and how to avoid it at all costs. Making 2023 the BEST year yet!
You feel tired – like, really tired – most of the time
If you are feeling regularly exhausted especially before the work day even starts, you may be trending towards burnout. Chronic low energy isn’t a sole indicator of burnout because you can be exhausted and still fully engaged in work or you could be so tired because you are so engaged.
You’ve become seriously cynical
If you are venting and bitching about work it’s okay, it’s not a crime! But is this cynicism becoming a regular part of who you are and you lose that spark that could be a sign of burnout.
You aren’t as productive or confident as usual
The third component of burnout is inefficacy, or the inability to effectively accomplish work. Instead of feeling capable, fulfilled and valued you feel discouraged and unconfident mix in the other two ingredients and burnout is guaranteed.
Now that we have identified the symptoms of burnout try hinder these symptoms by steering them to be healthier.
- Try job crafting – identify typical day to day things you enjoy during your workday and those that you don’t. Then adjust your schedule so you can spend more time on the good stuff and less time on the bad.
- Prioritise sleep – exhaustion can compound on itself so prioritise sleep because when you are well rested, you’re more excited and confident about accomplishing tasks. Plan your schedule around getting adequate shut-eye.
- Intentionally disengage from work – regularly make time for relationships and activities that have nothing to do with your job.
- Let yourself off the hook
- Seek professional help – if you have tried all the above tactics to no avail it may be time to take an extended break from work, switch jobs, and/or speak with a mental health professional.

Happy new year gents. Lets get the ball rolling. I hope we all have a blessed and productive year ahead.
Let me start by saying Happy New Year to #ManBox & to all #Manbox Family…Hope it was a nice one!
Well I think I’ve always been seriously cynical about my job & would get thoughts of quiting but never actually did. These advice are good & I’ll definitely will be trying them out to help hinder these BURNOUTS. Thank you #ManBox!
The fatigue is actually real, however I’ve invested myself in not being too hard on myself, I do what I can and at a very good pace that does not make me feel any worse than I am currently.
Happy new year to all. I trust that it will be a “brighter” year. I have had to work through the festive period, and it does take its toll, both physically and mentally. Spending time with family should be a priority, and your time to unwind and destress. Time is important gents, and you should always make time for the people and things you love.
Very informative
